It’s almost 3 am, many long hours after hearing news of the tragedy that took the lives of 20 children and 6 adults at the Sandy Hook Elementary School, plus the shooter’s mother at home. It’s impossible for me to sleep.
Images of the children and adults in their terrifying last moments of life haunt me. As do thoughts of how utterly brokenhearted their loved ones are at this moment and will be for the rest of their lives.
As a healer, I feel called upon to offer my highest and best efforts towards helping the victims’ loved ones at a time of such tragedy. I also need to find peace of mind for myself.
I’ve been in quiet listening for divine guidance and would like to share with you what has come to me. It’s also helpful to know, as you continue to read, that as we each find healing, it simultaneously adds to everyone’s healing of the incident.
For a long time I tried to lie in bed simply stilling my thoughts. Useless. Then, as I asked for divine guidance, slowly, an experience came upon me that was helpful. I found a place of quiet refuge by the contemplation of God’s All Presence.
As I explored this healing space I reasoned as best I could, even though there was a lot of mental chatter and emotion that pulled me back into the drama of the horror and shock of it all.
Yet, I continued to make strong efforts to stay in this sanctuary of the All Presence. And, finally, my upheaval and appall began to subside as I replaced it with the Presence.
As I write this, I am not at peace, but I am on the road to peace. I feel it near and at times I feel it fully. I’m encouraged because I know that this helps everyone else as well. That’s how healing works.
The biggest help came as I considered not just the divine Presence, but the ALL and Ever Presence of the Divine with us all, including the 26 who fell.
In this Presence, we are enveloped in Its All Love, which embraces each of us, whether on earth or elsewhere – and for eternity. We can never go outside the All Presence, because it’s literally Everywhere at Once and infinitely so.
This Absolute statement is one of supremacy carrying its Presence and Authority, even over the human barrier we call death.
In this All Presence we are forever united and inseparable, forever comforted and assured, forever joyful and well. This is our divine inheritance. It precedes and overrides the human experience. As we resonate in Its Love we are guided through the maze of unspeakable human tragedy and into the arms of divine Love available to us all and at all times.
At such times as this, we draw nearer to the experience of divine Love than ever before because our need is so great. Our reach for it is far greater than ever before. And it is there for us.
In this divine Reach, we are met by God’s Love that brings healing beyond our own ability to mend ourselves. It takes us beyond our present faith. Our faith must grow in order to bridge us to a higher place, higher than the entire tragedy, higher than our ocean of tears and anguish and higher than our endless sympathy and sense of loss. God is that big and that great and that powerful and that good – and that healing.
The divine Love pours out all the time but we are usually preoccupied. As we reach for it, open ourselves to it, and allow it to transform us with its blessing, we experience its miracle to do the impossible.
My loves embraces all the victims – the children and the adults as well as their loved ones. Our collective prayers reach them and bring renewed hope, reaching the depth of our despair, lighting the way, with none of us alone.
As a healer, I know the necessity and value of persistent prayer. The victims’ families will need our vigil to continue for days and even years to come so that whenever we think of them, we go to the Sacred Place of the All Presence of divine Love and immerse them and ourselves in it.
They will receive the prayer and it will offer healing every single time we make the effort.
This is my promise to those families and their departed loved ones.
